The reading of construction blueprints is a This 10-week course provides an overall and elementary understanding of construction materials and processes. One specific material category, one specific construction process, and an overall construction system will be studied each week. Students will have the opportunity to expand the studies to include materials and processes which are normally encountered by the student in his/her workplace. By the completion of this course students will be able to:

Recognize quality control procedures for various materials
Be familiar with material manufacturing processes and know where to find information about them when needed, including the relevant history of each material
Understand the physical limitations of the materials being studied and how they are used in construction
Understand the regulatory environment under which materials are manufactured and incorporated into new structures
Know the important aspects of how each material is used in construction processes

Kammi Mencke Smith and Scott A Gingras, attorneys with the firm of Winston & Cashatt, will be discussing the best termination practices. This seminar will include suggestions on evaluating employees, disciplining employees, and terminating employees. If a layoff is needed, as an employer, do you ever wonder which employees should be laid off first? Smith and Gingras will provide suggestions on things to consider when making this decision, as well as discussing severance packages, and other legal considerations such as the WARN Act, COBRA, discrimination and wrongful termination, and the effect of employment agreements.

Army Corps of Engineers Quality Control Management (CQM) (June 07, 2012)

The Corps of Engineers requires all contractors performing construction for them to comply with the "Contractor Quality Control" (CQC), requirements in their contracts. In cooperation with the construction industry the Corps developed a training course entitled Construction Quality Management for Contractors. The purpose of the "Construction Quality Management for Contractors" course is to familiarize all quality management personnel with the Corps of Engineers, Construction Quality Management, (CQM) policies and procedures. The course details the requirements of the contractor personnel and the government personnel assigned to the project and the reasons for those requirements. The effectiveness of the CQM system is enhanced when all personnel are aware of their responsibilities and the reasons for them. To ensure the success of the CQC system it is a contract requirement that the contractor's quality control representative take this training. The course is taught by the Corps district responsible for the construction. Any contractor who works with the US Army Corps of Engineers must successfully complete this course in order to be approved as a quality control manager.

*This certification is good for 5 years.

Signaling & Rigging Qualification Class (June 12, 2012)

This 1.5 day course covers all training requirements per 29CFR1926.1400 – the new rules about cranes on constructions sites or being used in a construction application – all riggers and signal persons must be qualified. This course covers everything in the new federal crane rule in the classroom training. At the end of the course, you will take a comprehensive written exam and have a practical evaluation.

The Train-the-Trainer workshop includes all of the above as well as "How to Be an Effective Trainer", color-keyed instructor's manual, PowerPoint presentation of course material, trainer certification card & certificate (to be sent to you within 10 business days of course completion), 10 student workbooks, keyed written exams, student written exams, practical evaluation forms, sign-in sheet, score sheet, record keeping instructions, student card template, and a trainer tote bag.

8-Hour Certified Erosion & Sediment Control Lead (CESCL) Recertification Training (June 18, 2012)

This one-day course meets the Washington State Department of Ecology's (DOE) requirements for Certified Erosion and Sediment Control Lead (CESCL) recertification under the Construction Stormwater General Permit for CESCLs who have previously completed the two-day certification class.

The Washington State Department of Ecology will allow up to a 6-month maximum grace period for any expired CESCLs. Please check the DOE website's CESCL database for your current CESCL status. Click here for the DOE's CESCL database.

2-Day Certified Erosion & Sediment Control Lead (CESCL) Training (June 19, 2012)

This two-day training course teaches contractors the most current techniques for successfully managing erosion and sediment at construction sites. In addition, the most current information on complying with federal, state and local regulatory requirements for stormwater is presented with a manual and forms. The course combines classroom instruction with actual hands-on field exercises; choosing, correctly installing, and testing BMPs for specific site conditions.

The Washington State Department of Ecology (DOE) has approved this class as satisfying Certified Erosion and Sediment Control Lead training requirements. Participants completing this class will receive certification as erosion and sediment control leads for the Washington Department of Ecology.

Building commissioning is a process designed to verify that a building will meet the project design requirements. It is a quality assurance process for the delivery of buildings and building systems. This course will cover the various aspects and requirements of building commissioning through the pre-design phase, design, construction and post construction phases of a building construction project. We will study the make up of the Commissioning Team and the role of scheduling and coordination in the commissioning process. Some of the topics we will study includes verification and testing, documentation, training, systems and ongoing commissioning.

We will go over construction checklists, construction verification requirements and special contexts. The course will stress green building requirements in regards to commissioning with an emphasis on construction operations.

By the end of this class you should:
