23 Lydig Construction employees climbed a Mountain to save a life – and 18 summited; 1 a breast cancer survivor. Lydig is setting the new standard in corporate philanthropy as they are the largest corporate team in Fred Hutch’s history to participate. Mt Adams is Washington’s 2nd highest peak, standing majestically at 12,276 feet (equivalent to 6 Space Needles stacked one on top of the other). It’s where it all began 15 years ago, when a group of friends decided to climb a mountain to save lives. The Climb to Fight Breast Cancer was born. This year, teams raised over $641k and Lydig Construction contributed over $100k of that!
The idea to climb Mt Adams grew out of a Lydig Wellness Challenge and the team included two of their owners- Larry Swartz, CEO, and Gus Gottschalk, President of Western Operations. Safety was a paramount concern and the CLIMB was led by Portland Parks and Recreation which has a safety record almost as impressive as Lydig’s itself; which is one of the finest safety records in the country.
“Lydig Construction has got to be the fittest company in America!” says Lisa Carlson, Climb to Fight Breast Cancer Event Manager. “Lydig is making a difference and funding life-saving research. They are setting an example for the rest of the corporate community.”
