After a national search that
involved the consideration of a multitude of quality candidates,
Chapter officers are pleased to announce that David D'Hondt has been
named Executive Director of the AGC of Washington.
David was 2007 President of the AGC and is currently the Director of
Safety and Risk Management for Absher Construction in Puyallup. He will
join the AGC staff in June. Dick Bristow, who returned to the AGC as
Executive Director in 2006 on in interim basis, will work with David
during a transition period.
"We looked at many fine candidates, but when David expressed his
interest we knew we had someone who is uniquely qualified to serve as
Executive Director," said AGC President Steve Barger who chaired
the Search Committee. "David is very familiar with the AGC as a
long-time, dedicated and enthusiastic volunteer. He knows the
commercial construction industry and has many years of business and
managerial experience."

Make Safety a Priority When
Hiring Teens for the Summer
A
tighter job market may challenge teens looking for work this summer,
but the Department of Labor & Industries (L&I) says that's
another reminder to teens, parents and employers to make workplace
safety a top priority as teens start summer jobs.
"Teens
and their parents may be grateful and excited for those summer jobs and
may not question a workplace hazard or situation that doesn't seem
right," said L&I Director Judy Schurke. "Teens are eager
to work, earn and learn, and we must do all we can to create safe
workplaces for them."

HEART ATTACK: First responders at a jobsite
sometimes encounter emergencies that are not work-related but arise
from sudden illness. An example of this, which is the topic of today's
safety meeting, is a heart attack. A heart attack usually involves a
clot or other blockage in one of the blood vessels that supplies the
heart. The primary symptom of a heart attack is discomfort in the chest
that many people describe as pressure, a squeezing sensation, or pain.
The discomfort may extend to the neck, jaw, or arms. Other symptoms
include sweating, nausea, shortness of breath, or a feeling of
weakness.
